Parliament Debate: shashi tharoor backs women’s reservation but slams link with delimitation plan

He highlighted potential tensions between states with strong population control policies and those with higher population growth, as well as between economically contributing states and net recipient states. He further argued that such changes, if not carefully managed, could affect India’s federal structure and cooperative federalism, raising concerns about equitable political representation across regions. The speech underscored a key opposition position: support for women’s reservation in principle, but strong resistance to its linkage with delimitation and census-related restructuring.
