Odisha Flood Crisis: 126 Villages Submerged, 8 Lakh People Affected

Heavy rainfall and rising river levels have worsened the flood situation across Odisha. In Bhadrak, 126 villages remain submerged, with nearly 8 lakh people affected. Around 42,000 hectares of crops have also been damaged, creating a serious threat to livelihoods. In Kendrapara, more than 3,000 people remain stranded in floodwaters, with shortages of food, drinking water and cattle fodder adding to their difficulties. The situation has also disrupted connectivity. In Dhenkanal, three villages have been cut off, while a bridge collapse in Mayurbhanj’s Suliapada block has severed connectivity to 15 panchayats. Authorities face the major challenge of reaching isolated communities and restoring essential services. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited flood-affected areas of Bhadrak and Jajpur to assess the situation and relief efforts. Meanwhile, in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, a biker became trapped while attempting to cross the swollen Bijul River. A local resident risked his life and rescued him. The incident highlights the dangers of crossing flooded rivers during the monsoon.
