NationTrack: Fuel Price Hike Divides Public as Inflation Pressure Mounts Across Indian Cities

ABP News

Fresh hikes in petrol and diesel prices have triggered mixed reactions across major Indian cities, with many citizens expressing concern over rising living costs while others defend the government’s decision amid global economic pressure. The latest increase comes just days after an earlier fuel hike, intensifying worries over inflation and its cascading effect on daily expenses. In Delhi, commuters and workers dependent on private vehicles say the repeated increase in fuel prices is directly impacting household budgets. Several residents highlighted the lack of affordable public transport connectivity in outer areas, making personal vehicles a necessity rather than a choice. Daily commuters travelling long distances for work say they are being forced to spend more on transportation at a time when salaries and payments remain uncertain. In Lucknow, reactions ranged from frustration to reluctant acceptance. Some residents blamed global market conditions and crude oil shortages for the increase, while others argued that the burden on the common man is becoming unbearable. Workers engaged in delivery services, field jobs, and shift-based employment said public transport is not a practical option for them, especially in areas with limited metro access. Despite the criticism, a section of people supported the fuel price rise, saying difficult national and international conditions may have compelled the government to take tough decisions. Others claimed the hike would not significantly impact their daily spending, though many admitted inflation is becoming impossible to ignore. The latest fuel hike has once again pushed inflation into national focus, as rising transportation costs are expected to affect food prices, local businesses, and essential services across the country. Analysts believe continued volatility in international crude oil markets and supply concerns may keep fuel prices under pressure in the coming weeks.
