Mumbai: Passenger woes continue due to Mega-block announced by Central Railway for widening platforms

Train services have been disrupted in Thane railway station due to ongoing work for widening platforms. The 63-hour mega block was announced between May 31st and June 2nd by the Central Railway to complete the work. The infrastructure work planned led to cancellation of many trains adding to passenger woes. According to daily commuters the disruption in train services led to inconvenience, as many people were dependent on buses and taxis for travel. "The problem in coming here was that not many trains are running. They are running rarely because there is work going on in Thane. Normal people also get into the Handicap coaches when we get in. So, we have to face a lot of issues while coming here. So, there were a lot of issues we had to face," says James Naidu, Commuter. Apart from Thane railway station, two platforms at the Chatrapti Shivaji Maharaj Terminus are also being widened. More than 900 short and long distance trains have been cancelled during this period.
