Mumbai News: Newly Inaugurated Mumbai Flyover Faces Quality Concerns, BMC Denies Safety Issues

A newly inaugurated flyover in Mumbai’s Goregaon has come under scrutiny after visible surface irregularities and patchwork appeared just days after its opening. Built at an estimated cost of ₹250 crore, the flyover connects the Western Express Highway to Oshiwara and was inaugurated on June 6. Social media users and opposition leaders have questioned the quality of construction, pointing to uneven road surfaces and tyre marks near the joint connecting the new structure with the existing flyover. Shiv Sena criticized the project, alleging misuse of public funds and demanding a thorough investigation into its construction. In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) dismissed concerns over the flyover’s safety, stating that no compromise had been made on structural strength or durability. According to the civic body, the rough appearance is due to a 40-mm-thick mastic asphalt layer and stone aggregates applied intentionally to improve tyre grip and road safety.
