MAHARASHTRA ALERT: 13 Dead in Pune Illicit Liquor Case, 8 Arrested as Probe Intensifies

The investigation into the Pune illicit liquor tragedy has intensified, with authorities confirming the arrest of eight individuals so far in connection with the case that has claimed 13 lives across multiple areas in Maharashtra. The incident, which has triggered widespread concern, is being described as one of the most serious liquor-related tragedies in recent months. According to officials, the Maharashtra government has handed over the probe to a special Crime Branch team to ensure a deeper and more coordinated investigation. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured strict action against all those responsible and stated that the inquiry will be taken to its “root level” to uncover the entire network behind the illegal liquor supply chain. The highest number of fatalities has been reported from the Pimpri-Chinchwad region, followed by other affected areas including Kalyan-Padel and Hadapsar. Several victims are still undergoing treatment in hospitals, with some reported to be in critical condition. Preliminary findings suggest that toxic substances, including industrial-grade methanol, may have been mixed during the preparation of the illicit liquor, allegedly to increase quantity and profit margins. Authorities believe this adulteration led to the fatal reactions among consumers. Investigators are also probing a wider distribution network, with officials indicating that the case may involve an organized supply chain operating across localities. Multiple liquor containers and related materials have already been seized as evidence. Police and Crime Branch teams continue to carry out raids and interrogations to identify all individuals involved. Officials have reiterated that no one found guilty will be spared as the investigation expands further.
