Kedarnath yatra chaos: Long queues, mismanagement claims as pilgrims struggle for hours for darshan

The ongoing Kedarnath pilgrimage has witnessed massive crowds and long waiting times, with thousands of devotees reporting extended delays in darshan at the Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand. According to on-ground reports, pilgrims are facing congestion on the approach routes, with queues stretching over several kilometres in some stretches. Many devotees say they have been waiting for several hours, with limited movement in the queue system, especially during peak visiting hours. Several pilgrims expressed concern over crowd management and logistical arrangements, claiming that the long waiting time has led to fatigue and health issues among some visitors. A few cases of medical distress were also reported among elderly devotees, who had to rest along the roadside due to exhaustion after prolonged standing in queues. On-ground accounts suggest that weather fluctuations and heavy influx of pilgrims are contributing to the pressure on infrastructure. The administration has deployed personnel to manage crowd flow, but visitors report uneven distribution of assistance and delays in regulating entry timing to the temple premises. Despite the challenges, devotees continue to arrive in large numbers, driven by strong religious faith and the spiritual significance of the Kedarnath shrine, which is part of the Char Dham Yatra circuit. Many pilgrims describe the journey as physically demanding but emotionally fulfilling once darshan is completed. Authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged pilgrims to follow designated schedules and safety guidelines to reduce congestion. Officials are also working on improving queue management and crowd control mechanisms to ensure smoother movement in the coming days of the pilgrimage season.
