Hindu families from Pakistan in India, unwilling to return

Several Pakistani Hindus families recently crossed over the border to come to India. Now they are indicating that many of them did not wish to go back. They crossed over carrying the little that they own and tales of horror and discrimination. They do not know what the future holds, but say they know that they will not return to Pakistan.

Among the Pakistani Hindus who came to India, some of them claimed that they felt unsafe in the neighbouring country and hoped to get India citizenship after the enactment of the CAA.

As per the CAA law, migrants of six non-Muslim communities -- Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian -- who have come from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014 will be given Indian citizenship. The law sparked countrywide protests and violence at some places in which approximately 25 people were killed.
