Gujarat Flood: Heavy Rainfall Turns Deadly As Natural Calamity Disrupts Life | ABP News

Heavy rainfall in several parts of Gujarat has led to at least seven deaths, according to officials. Over 15,000 people have been evacuated to safe locations and more than 300 have been rescued as part of large-scale relief and rescue operations. The continuous downpour for the third consecutive day on Tuesday has severely disrupted daily life and caused flooding in low-lying areas. The Meteorological Department has forecasted extremely heavy rainfall for the Saurashtra-Kutch region on Wednesday and Thursday, with the entire state expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall by Thursday. The ongoing rains have increased the water levels in dams and rivers, prompting the evacuation of over 15,000 people to safer places. So far, Gujarat has recorded more than 100% of its average annual rainfall. In Gandhinagar, Kheda, and Vadodara districts, incidents of wall collapses have resulted in four deaths. Additionally, one person died due to a falling tree in Anand district and two others drowned in floodwaters. According to the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), the state has received approximately 100% of its average annual rainfall. In Kutch, Saurashtra, and South Gujarat districts, rainfall has exceeded the average annual totals. For example, Tankara taluka in Morbi recorded 347 millimeters of rain in a 24-hour period ending at 6 AM Tuesday, the highest in the state. Other significant rainfall figures include 346 millimeters in Morva Hadaf (Panchmahal), 327 millimeters in Nadiad (Kheda), 318 millimeters in Borsad (Anand), 316 millimeters in Vadodara taluka, and 314 millimeters in Anand taluka.
