DWARKA: MCD Demolishes Allegedly Illegal Sixth Floor of Building
The MCD has launched action against an allegedly illegal sixth floor in a building in Dwarka, Delhi. According to MCD officials, the approved building plan allowed ground plus four floors, but an additional sixth floor was allegedly constructed illegally. Since a conventional bulldozer cannot operate at the height, MCD workers are using hammers and manual labour to demolish the unauthorized walls, roof and structure. MCD officials and Delhi Police personnel are present at the site as the demolition continues. The action comes amid increased scrutiny of unauthorized construction following the Satya Niketan building collapse. Questions are being raised over why the illegal construction was allowed to progress to such an extent before action was taken. The report questions whether the current demolition drive represents genuine enforcement or merely a reactive exercise following the recent tragedy.
