Devastation in Northeast India: Heavy Rains Trigger Floods and Landslides Across Four States | ABP NEWS
Several northeastern states of India are facing widespread destruction due to continuous heavy rainfall, with Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, and parts of North Bengal worst affected. Rivers are in full spate, submerging vast areas and forcing thousands to flee their homes. In Sikkim, the Teesta River is overflowing dangerously. In Mangan and Gangtok, incessant rain has disrupted normal life. A section of a bridge in Mangan was washed away, cutting off key areas like Chungthang and Lachung. Over 1,500 tourists were stranded, including 1,350 in Lachung and 115 in Lachen. Rescue operations are ongoing, but landslides and broken roads are making access difficult. Several small bridges have developed cracks, severing links to remote villages. Assam, too, is grappling with heavy floods. Cities like Silchar and nearby areas are submerged, and landslides continue to pose a major threat. Rivers have crossed danger levels, flooding low-lying areas and destroying homes. Arunachal Pradesh is witnessing similar chaos, with swollen rivers and road blockages. The continuous rainfall has triggered landslides in the hills, damaging infrastructure and endangering lives. Authorities are working around the clock to rescue stranded people and restore connectivity, but the situation remains critical across the region.
