Following the BJP's victory in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, discussions about government formation are intensifying, with the spotlight on who will be the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. BJP lawmakers will meet with party president JP Nadda today to discuss leadership options. Speculation is rife that a prominent MLA from the party could be chosen as CM, while the Deputy CM may be from a backward caste, woman, or the Purvanchali community. Among female leaders, names like Rekha Gupta from Shalimar Bagh, Shikha Roy from Greater Kailash, Neelam Pahalwan from Najafgarh, and Poonam Sharma from Wazirpur are being considered, with Rekha Gupta emerging as a frontrunner. The decision for a woman Deputy CM comes in light of the 43% female vote share BJP received this time, up 8% from the previous elections. In the Purvanchal category, leaders like Kapil Mishra, Abhay Verma, Pankaj Singh, and Chandan Chaudhary are in contention, with Kapil Mishra leading due to his strong ties to Gorkhpur. BJP is also considering leaders from the Sikh and Jat communities, including Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Arvinder Singh Lovely, and Pravesh Verma. The final decision on the CM and Deputy CM will likely be made after PM Modi's return from his foreign tour.
