Delhi Achieves Milestone: 4,000 Electric Buses and 400 km Metro Line Transform City Transit

Delhi has witnessed a significant transformation under the current BJP government, with a strong focus on urban development, public transport, and environmental sustainability. The city now boasts a fleet of 4,000 fully electric buses, making it the largest EV bus fleet in India. By the end of this year, the government aims to expand the fleet to 7,500 buses, and by 2028, the target is 14,000 buses to meet the growing transport needs of the capital. The administration has also made major strides in metro expansion, with nearly 400 km of metro lines operational in the Delhi-NCR region, set to reach 500 km after Phase Five. A budget allocation of ₹5,000 crore has been made for faster project execution, including clearing pending payments from the previous government. The government is improving “last-mile connectivity” through e-bikes, e-autos, and e-taxis, complemented by a new e-rickshaw policy, aiming to create a sustainable, environment-friendly transport ecosystem. The initiatives are part of a broader push to provide citizens with reliable mobility, reduce pollution, and strengthen Delhi’s infrastructure. Officials highlight that these measures are creating a model urban transport system that balances speed, accessibility, and ecological responsibility, setting Delhi apart as a benchmark for other Indian cities.
