Chhatarpur News: MP Floods Trigger House Collapse, Roads Cut Off as Rivers Swell After Heavy Rain
Heavy rainfall has triggered a flood-like situation across parts of Madhya Pradesh’s Bundelkhand region, with Chhatarpur among the worst-affected districts. Rivers, streams and drainage channels have swollen after intense downpours, disrupting road connectivity and creating serious concerns for residents in several villages. In Guda Kala village under the Lavkush Nagar police station area, a rain-weakened mud house suddenly collapsed and turned into a pile of debris, although no one was inside at the time. Chhatarpur has also witnessed exceptionally heavy rainfall, with Khajuraho reportedly recording levels that broke a 15-year record. The overflow of the Dauladeo Ghat stop dam pushed water towards the steps of the historic Dauladeo Temple. Meanwhile, an overflowing drain near Lavkush Nagar has brought the Lavkush Nagar-Guda Kala route to a standstill, leaving several villages disconnected. In Bamni village, the Shyamri River rose sharply and water began flowing over a bridge. A pregnant woman travelling towards a hospital became stranded after the flooded route blocked further movement. With vehicles unable to move ahead, she was reportedly forced to deliver inside an auto-rickshaw, with both mother and newborn said to be safe. The situation has also affected Chitrakoot’s revered Ramghat, where the swollen Mandakini River has left visible flood marks around the pilgrimage area. Although water has receded from parts of the town, the river level remains elevated, keeping residents and authorities on alert amid continuing concerns over heavy rain and flooding.
