Breaking: West Bengal Govt Confirms Murshidabad Peace, High Court Calls for BSF in Affected Areas

The West Bengal government submitted a report to the Calcutta High Court stating that the situation in Murshidabad is now under control. The unrest began during protests against the Waqf Bill, which were initially peaceful. However, on April 8, the situation escalated when protesters blocked National Highway 12 in Umarpur, leading to violence. In response to a petition filed by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari demanding an investigation into the violence, the High Court held a hearing and issued several key directions. The court ordered that the Border Security Force (BSF) remain deployed in affected areas to maintain peace. Additionally, the High Court suggested forming a three-member committee to oversee rehabilitation efforts for displaced individuals. This committee will include representatives from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC), and the State Legal Services Authority. The committee will monitor and support the resettlement of those impacted by the violence.
