This surcharge will now be reviewed every month and may go up or down based on consumption and cost factors. The decision, taken quietly, has triggered opposition from the Electricity Consumers Council, which claims that ₹33,122 crore had already been overcharged from consumers over the years. Despite several meetings, no hike was made in the past five years due to strong opposition. However, this time the hike has been enforced silently, raising concerns among the public. Consumer groups demand clarification and rollback. The monthly review plan has added to the uncertainty, making electricity pricing unpredictable.
