View In AppThe prices of Amul milk have been increased across the country with effect from Monday after the new tarrif, as announced by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation came into effect, starting June 3 onwards. The GCMMF, which markets dairy products under the 'Amul' brand, has increased milk prices by about Rs 2 per litre from Monday all over India. Amid the price hike, Amul, a leading milk supplier in the country, stated that the prices were hiked by just 3 to 4 percent. "The increase of Rs 2 per litre translates to range of 3-4 per cent hike in MRP which is much lower than average food inflation," the GCMMF said in a late night statement. The price hike was announced after the finals and last phase of the of the Lok Sabha elections concluded on June 1. The GCMMF stated that it had not increased the prices of fresh pouch milk in major markets since February 2023. "This price hike is being done due to increase in overall cost of operation and production of milk. Our member unions have also increased farmers' compensation by approximately 6-8 per cent over the last one year," the GCMMF said. Almost 80 paise of every rupee that is paid by consumers is passed on by Amul for milk and milk products to the milk producers, as per Amul's policy. The statement also said that the price revision would help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to the milk producers that would in turn encourage them for higher milk production.
