Assam Oath Ceremony: Himanta Biswa Sarma Set for Second Term as NDA Secures Big Victory
Assam is set to witness the formation of another BJP-led NDA government as Himanta Biswa Sarma prepares to take oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 11:40 AM and is expected to be a major political event with the presence of top national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the chief guest. Following the NDA’s decisive victory in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections, Himanta Biswa Sarma was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party and the NDA alliance. The result has paved the way for the coalition’s third consecutive government in the northeastern state, strengthening the BJP’s political dominance in the region. Alongside Sarma, four ministers are expected to take oath in the first phase of cabinet formation. The leaders include former Union Minister Rameswar Teli, senior BJP leader Ajanta Neog, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) chief Atul Bora, and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Chandan Brahma. Senior BJP figures and chief ministers from several states are also likely to attend the ceremony. The NDA registered a commanding performance in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly by securing a massive majority. The BJP won 82 seats on its own, while alliance partners AGP and BPF secured 10 seats each, taking the alliance tally comfortably past the majority mark. Top BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and BJP President JP Nadda, are expected to attend the event. Political observers see the victory as a major endorsement of Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, governance model, and the BJP’s growing influence across the Northeast.
