View In AppThis Bear Rescue Centre in Agra was established by Wildlife SOS, an NGO, in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department in 1999. The Centre was set up to rescue Indian Dancing Bears, or Sloth Bears, from Kalandars, who used to capture these bears and make them perform various tricks to entertain people on roadsides and at various tourist destinations. The Centre is home to nearly 100 rescued sloth bears.In view of the rising heat, the Bear Rescue Centre has made special arrangements to ensure that the animals are properly fed and taken care of to prevent heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses. According to Wildlife SOS, the Agra Bear Rescue Facility is the largest sloth bear rescue facility in the world. The facility provides specialised veterinary as well as geriatric care for sloth bears.
