India Vision 2047: Ashwini Bhide Outlines BMC’s Roadmap for a Safer Monsoon Season
Speaking at the ABP Network India@2047 Conclave, BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide outlined the municipal corporation’s comprehensive plan to tackle waterlogging and improve Mumbai’s resilience during the monsoon season. She emphasized that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has undertaken extensive preparations well ahead of the rains to reduce flooding and ensure smoother functioning of the city. Bhide stated that the administration has focused on strengthening drainage infrastructure, cleaning storm-water drains, removing silt from critical locations, and enhancing monitoring systems in flood-prone areas. Special attention has been given to vulnerable zones that traditionally experience severe water accumulation during intense rainfall. The commissioner also highlighted the use of technology, real-time monitoring, and coordinated emergency response mechanisms to improve preparedness. BMC teams have been deployed strategically, and contingency plans have been developed to respond quickly to any weather-related disruptions. She noted that the objective is not only to reduce waterlogging but also to ensure uninterrupted transportation, public safety, and efficient civic services during the monsoon. The discussion reflected Mumbai’s broader vision of becoming a more climate-resilient and infrastructure-ready city. Through proactive planning and improved coordination, the BMC aims to provide significant relief to residents and minimize the impact of heavy rains on daily life.
