Union Budget 2025: 'We Are The Fastest Growing Economy In The World,' Says Nirmala Sitharaman
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented the Union Budget 2025, marking her eighth consecutive budget, setting a record in India's financial history. Before the presentation, she met President Droupadi Murmu and handed over a copy of the budget. President Murmu extended her best wishes by offering her curd and sugar, a traditional gesture of good luck. Sitharaman then attended a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where the budget received final approval. Sitharaman, India’s first full-time female finance minister, has been presenting budgets since 2019, when the Modi government secured its second consecutive term. Historically, former Prime Minister Morarji Desai holds the record for presenting the highest number of budgets—ten during his tenure as finance minister. According to PTI, Budget 2025 is expected to introduce measures to boost the slowing economy and provide relief to the middle class, which has been struggling with inflation and stagnant wages. The budget session, which began with President Murmu’s address, will be conducted in two phases from January 31 to April 4, with a break between February 13 and March 10.
