Good News For UP Tipplers! Govt Slashes Rates Of Select Liquor Brands At Par With Delhi

Makers of 36 premium liquor brands have reduced the MRP on their products which has, by extension, resulted in reduction of their going rates.

New Delhi: In good news for tipplers at a time when rising inflation is burning holes in most pockets, liquor prices of premium brands in Uttar Pradesh have been brought at par with Delhi. According to reports, premium branded liquor labels in Uttar Pradesh are now priced cheaper or at par with the national capital. It is understood that the Yogi Adityanath government and the manufacturers of foreign liquor have been in talks lately over reduction of prices and the outcome is believed to have been positive.

Reports say the revised prices of premium liquor labels have already come into effect. It is understood that the makers of 36 premium liquor brands have reduced the MRP on their products which has, by extension, resulted in reduction of their going rates. These top liquor brands include Glenlivet, Chivas Regal, Jameson, Ballantine’s, Aberlour and Absolut Vodka.

However, the liquor brands from the stable of Diageo, the parent company of premium label Johnnie Walker, will not be available for some time due to stock shortage.

As per the revised rates of premium liquor brands, the MRP of Glenlivet 12 years (750 ml) in UP is Rs 3,330, down from Rs 3,820 in 2021 and significantly lower than Rs 3,630 in Delhi. Chivas Regal 12 years (750 ml) costs Rs 2,820, lower than Rs 3,130 and marginally lower than Rs 2,920, the current going rate in New Delhi.

Similarly, Absolut Vodka (75 ml) is priced at Rs 1,720 in UP, less than Rs 1,860 last year. The reduced price has brought this label on par with its current going rate in the national capital. The price of Jameson (750 ml) has been slashed to Rs 1,940 from Rs 2,380 last year. However, despite the reduction in price, the going rate for this label in UP is slightly higher than Rs 1,840 in Delhi.

Ballentine’s (750 ml) costs Rs 1,710 under the revised rate structure, making it 4 per cent cheaper than Rs 1,790, its price last year. However, the same liquor currently costs Rs 1,490 in the national capital.
