In a case of domestic violence in Engapuzha near Thamarassery on Tuesday night, a man brutally hacked his wife to death and attacked her parents before fleeing the scene. The accused identified as Yasir was a native of Puthuppady. On the day of the incident, Yasir reportedly arrived at his in-laws’ house around 6 PM, where his wife, Shibila, had been staying due to ongoing marital disputes.
Violent Attack
After arriving at the house, without any warning, he suddenly launched a violent attack fatally stabbing her in the throat and behind the ear. She succumbed to her injuries on the spot, as per a report on The Hindu.
When Shibila’s father P Abdurahman tried to stop the attack, Yasir attacked him aswell. In the attack, Abdurahman reportedly suffered severe head injuries. Her mother, Haseena, also sustained deep cuts on her hands in the attack. Both were rushed to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital. However, they were transferred to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Yet, Abdurahman’s condition remains critical.
According to eyewitnesses and neighbours, Yasir was a known drug addict and the attack was allegedly carried out while he was under the influence, as per a report on Manorama. Shibila had previously lodged a complaint with Thamarassery police, accusing Yasir of pawning her jewellery, selling her belongings and subjecting her to repeated physical abuse. She had also reported that he forcibly evicted her and their young child from their home, leaving her with no access to her personal possessions.
Investigators are also reviewing Shibila’s past complaints to determine whether adequate protective measures were taken.
