Among those killed were chartered accountant Vivek Agrawal, his wife Tarjni Agrawal, his mother Premlata Agrawal, and daughters Jivisha and Varya Agrawal, also known as Pearl. Three other relatives travelling with the family also lost their lives in the fire.

Neighbours Recall a Well-Known Family

Virendra Singh, a tenant of Vivek Agrawal, said he rushed to the hospital after learning about the incident, where he was informed that eight members of the family had died.

He described the news as deeply shocking and said it had left everyone who knew the family devastated.

Neighbours and local residents remembered Vivek Agrawal as a warm and sociable person. The family was well-known in the area, and news of the deaths has cast a pall of grief across the neighbourhood.

Security Alert In Meerut: Probe Intensified After Drone-Like Objects Spotted Over Cantonment Area

Meerut (UP), Jun 2 (PTI) Security agencies have intensified surveillance and launched a joint investigation after reports of suspicious drone-like objects being spotted over the Meerut Cantonment area in Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Tuesday.

According to officials, information was received on the evening of May 30 that some suspicious camera-equipped drones were seen flying over the cantonment area.

Following the alert, teams of the Army and local police jointly conducted search operations and informed senior military as well as police authorities.

As part of the investigation, search operations were carried out in and around Sardhana Road, Kankerkhera, RVC and Ganganagar areas. CCTV footage from the vicinity is also being examined, the officials said.

Additional City Superintendent of Police (ASP), City, Vinayak Gopal Bhonsle said the information regarding drone-like objects over the cantonment area was received through Army and local police channels on May 30 evening.

"Taking the information seriously, the police surveillance team, social media cell and other specialised units were tasked with investigating the matter," Bhonsle said.

He said a comprehensive search operation had been conducted by a joint team comprising Army Police, local police and district police personnel.

A high-level meeting involving senior Army officers and officials from central agencies was also held to ensure adherence to security-related standard operating procedures, he added.

Bhonsle said the matter was being investigated in coordination with specialised Army units.

The ASP City also refuted media reports claiming that two drones had been shot down. Army officials have denied any such incident and no confirmation has been received so far, he said.

The officials said that flying drones without permission in a restricted military zone is a punishable offence. Appropriate legal action will be taken in accordance with the findings of the investigation, they added.

‘Those Who Regret Can Return’: Sanjay Raut Invites Shinde Camp Leaders Back To Shiv Sena (UBT)

Nashik (Maharashtra), Jun 2 (PTI) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday said that if any of the leaders who sided with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in 2022 regret their "mistake", they should return to the party led by Uddhav Thackeray.

Some people, however, will not get entry into the party, Raut said, speaking to reporters here.

"If anyone regrets the mistake...(because of) the way the BJP is insulting them, if anyone feels that they have made a mistake or were misguided, they should come back to the party led by Uddhav Thackeray," the Rajya Sabha member said.

Raut's remark came a day after former state minister Abdul Sattar, who is with the Shiv Sena faction led by Shinde, said that while the BJP "cut the hands and legs of the Sena (UBT), it chopped off the head of the (Shinde-led) Shiv Sena in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district." There was no point to the Sena-BJP alliance if "our elder brother is finishing us off," Sattar said, while replying in the affirmative when asked if the two Shiv Senas should come together.

Raut said that the BJP was never the "elder brother" in the original saffron alliance in Maharashtra. The undivided Shiv Sena was the senior partner, and as the BJP could not accept this, it split the party, he said.

The Shinde-led Shiv Sena was not a party but was born of "corrupt practices" of the Election Commission, Raut further said, adding that whenever the Supreme Court's decision on the legal dispute related to the Shiv Sena symbol and name comes, it will be in favour of the Uddhav Thackeray-led party.

Sushma Andhare, a Sena (UBT) spokesperson, also reacted to Sattar's statement.

LPG Cylinder Blast Triggers Factory Collapse In North Delhi, 11 Rescued; Woman Critical

New Delhi, Jun 2 (PTI) Eleven people were rescued, one of them in a critical state, after a single-storey utensil colouring factory collapsed in an LPG cylinder blast in north Delhi's Mukundpur area on Tuesday morning, officials said.

The incident occurred at Gali No. 1, Ishu Vihar, Mukundpur-II, near the cremation ground.

According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call reporting the blast and house collapse was received at 9.37 am. The caller informed authorities that several residents were feared trapped under the debris.

"Information was received that a blast had taken place and a building had collapsed, trapping people inside. Rescue teams were immediately rushed to the spot and search and rescue operations were launched," a DFS official said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outernorth) Hareshwar Swami said police received information about the blast and collapse around 9.30 am, following which an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) that was patrolling nearby and local police personnel rushed to the spot.

"Eleven people have been rescued. One woman suffered burn injuries and is in a critical condition. She has been referred to Safdarjung Hospital," Swami said.

The officer said an initial investigation suggested that the blast might have occurred while transferring gas from a big cylinder to a smaller one. Some cylinders were found at the spot.

"Prima facie, we got to know that a utensil colouring factory was being operated from the building. Many gas cylinders were found there. The process of transferring gas from big cylinders to small ones was taking place and that appears to be the possible reason behind the blast," Swami said.

According to DFS officials, the building comprised a ground floor that was allegedly being used for refilling small LPG cylinders from commercial LPG cylinders when the blast took place, resulting in the collapse of the structure.

"Prima facie, we got to know that a utensil colouring factory was being operated from the house," Swami said.

The blast occurred in a 250-square yard single-storey house, officials said.

The DFS said 10 of the injured were taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital and Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital for treatment, while the critically injured woman was referred to Safdarjung Hospital.

Authorities cleared debris and searched the collapsed structure to ensure no one remained trapped underneath.

Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, local police and a dog squad were deployed at the site. The DCP said that all injured were workers employed at the factory.

An eyewitness told PTI that the moment I heard a loud blast-like sound, the first thing that came to my mind was that a gas cylinder had exploded. "We immediately ran towards the spot and found that a house had collapsed," he said.

He said that there was dust everywhere and people were shouting for help. Some people started recording videos on their phones.

"I personally requested them to stop filming and join the rescue effort because every second was important," he said.

The eyewitness said that around half a dozen people got down to clear the debris with whatever tools they found.

"By God's grace, we managed to pull out one person from under the rubble. They were frightened and injured," he added.

Another eyewitness, who was working nearby at the time of the incident, said he too rushed to the site after hearing a loud explosion.

"I heard a loud bang and rushed towards where the sound came from. When I reached there, the locals had already gathered and were engaged in rescue efforts," he said.

The agency used dummies and sought a step-by-step account from Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh regarding the events of the night when Sharma allegedly died by hanging at her matrimonial home.

Investigators asked the accused to explain the sequence of events that unfolded after the incident was discovered.

CBI Keeps Further Custody Option Open

During Tuesday's hearing, the CBI informed the court that it was presently seeking judicial remand and not police custody.

However, the agency indicated that it could seek further police remand at a later stage if the investigation required additional custodial interrogation.
