IPL 2025: SRH's Qualification Scenario After 6 Losses In 8 Matches

Here's a look at the qualification scenarios of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025 season. Read below for more details.

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been a forgettable season for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Out of the eight matches played, they have already lost six, including their recent defeat against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April (23) Wednesday. SRH are placed 9th in the points table, just above Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to a slightly better Net Run Rate (NRR).

SRH will next face Chennai at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 25 (Friday).

IPL 2025 Playoffs Qualification Scenario For SRH

SRH have six more games remaining in the IPL 2025 season, where they are set to face Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gujarat Titans (GT), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Out of these, only two matches will be played at their home ground.

If SRH win all their remaining matches, they will finish with 16 points. While that total has historically been enough to secure a playoff spot in most IPL seasons, the 2025 edition is proving to be tightly contested. So, even with 16 points, SRH may still need to depend on other results and, crucially, improve their Net Run Rate (NRR).

Although 16 points would give them a strong chance, if SRH finish on 14, their qualification hopes will become uncertain. Last year, RCB qualified with 14 points, but that was due to a strong NRR. For SRH, a similar scenario would require not just wins but big-margin victories to boost their NRR significantly.

After clinching the IPL trophy in 2016, SRH’s performance saw a consistent rise. They went on to qualify for the playoffs five more times, showcasing their competitive edge. Notably, they finished as runners-up twice in 2018 and 2024 where they lost to CSK and KKR respectively in the finals.

Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated SRH to register their fourth consecutive win and climbed to the third position in the points table. The Hardik Pandya-led side had struggled with multiple defeats at the start of the season.
