Gujarat Titans’ Kagiso Rabada Admits To Failing Drug Test, Serving Suspension After Abrupt IPL 2025 Exit

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has admitted to failing a drug test for a recreational substance and is currently serving a provisional suspension from all forms of cricket.

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, who returned home from IPL 2025 last month citing "personal reasons," has admitted to failing a drug test and publicly apologised for his actions on Saturday. Rabada, also the spearhead of Gujarat Titans pace attack in the IPL, revealed he is currently serving a provisional suspension from all forms of competitive cricket after testing positive for a banned recreational substance.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Rabada’s violation occurred during the SA20 tournament held in January-February this year, where he represented MI Cape Town. While the duration of his suspension has not yet been officially disclosed, Rabada has since returned to India and is expected to resume playing soon. Notably, he hasn’t featured in any match since March 29.

In a statement issued by Rabada through the South African Cricketers' Association (SACA), Rabada confirmed he had left the IPL and returned home after testing positive for a recreational drug.

"As has been reported, I recently returned to South Africa from participating in the IPL for personal reasons. This was due to my returning an adverse analytical finding for the use of a recreational drug," Rabada said in his statement.

Rabada expressed regret, saying he won't take the privilege of playing cricket for granted and acknowledging that it represents more than just his personal goals.

"I am deeply sorry to all those that I have let down. I will never take the privilege of playing cricket for granted. This privilege is much larger than me. It goes beyond my personal aspirations.

"I am serving a provisional suspension and I am looking forward to returning to the game I love playing. I couldn't have gone through this alone. I'd like to thank my agent, CSA, and Gujarat Titans for their support. I'd also like to thank SACA and my legal team for their guidance and counsel. Most importantly I'd like to thank my friends and family for their understanding and love.”

"Moving forward, this moment will not define me. I will keep doing what I have always done, continuously working hard and playing with passion and devotion to my craft," said Rabada.
