Cristiano Ronaldo Hints At Retirement After Portugal's Nations League Victory
Following Portugal's win, superstar Cristiano Ronaldo dropped a big hint about his retirement.

Portugal defeated Spain 5-3 on penalties in a dramatic final of the UEFA Nations League at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, becoming the first nation to win the tournament twice.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw during regulation time, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a key goal to help Portugal level the score. In the penalty shootout, Portugal held their nerve and secured a memorable 5-3 victory.
Ronaldo, who was part of Portugal's squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, continues to perform at the highest level despite his age. However, with the 2026 World Cup approaching—by which time he will be 41 years old—fans are beginning to wonder if he will feature in another World Cup campaign.
Ronaldo hints at retirement
Following the win, the Portuguese superstar dropped a big hint about his retirement, suggesting that while he’s nearing the end, he’s not done just yet.
“You know how old I am already. Obviously, I’m closer to the end than I was at the beginning, but I have to enjoy every moment. If I don’t get seriously injured, I’ll keep going,” Ronaldo told reporters.
Though not an official farewell, his words indicate that the countdown may have begun. Until then, fans can still look forward to seeing one of football’s greatest icons in action—at least for a little longer.
'Nothing bigger than winning for Portugal'
“I have many titles with my clubs, but nothing is better than winning for Portugal. These are tears. It’s mission accomplished and so much joy," Ronaldo said about Portugal's win.
Ronaldo also made a revealing statement following Portugal’s victory, disclosing that he played the final against Spain while nursing an injury. Despite the physical setback, the Portuguese icon emphasized his unwavering commitment to the team, saying he was willing to put everything on the line.
“I was carrying an injury going into the final. But even if it meant breaking my leg, I would’ve played. I had to be there for my country,” Ronaldo said.
