WTC 2023-25 Points Table: Updated World Test Championship Standings After SA vs SL 1st Test In Durban

WTC Updated Points Table: South Africa made a huge leap in the WTC 2023-25 standings after 233-run win over Sri Lanka, making India's path to the WTC final more challenging.

WTC Updated Points Table: South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 233 runs in the first SA vs SL Test of the two-match Test series at Kingsmead, Durban on November 30 (Saturday). After the massive win, South Africa jumped three places up to the second spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle points table, surpassing Australia.  With their fifth win in nine matches in the ongoing cycle, South Africa leapfrogged Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka to claim the second position in the WTC standings.

South Africa’s Points Percentage (PCT) soared from 54.17 to 59.25 after their win over Sri Lanka in Durban. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, who were ranked third before the series, dropped to fifth place and now hold a PCT of 50 from 10 matches. This victory puts South Africa in strong contention to finish in the top-two and secure a spot in the WTC final. Securing a win in the SA vs SL 2nd Test and the two upcoming home Tests against Pakistan could seal their place. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will aim to level the series to keep their hopes of reaching the summit clash alive.

India Face Stiff Challenge For WTC Final Spot

India currently top the WTC standings with a PCT of 61.11, reclaiming the position after their victory over Australia in the first Test at Perth. India have four more matches left in this cycle, while defending champions Australia have six remaining games, including fixtures against India and Sri Lanka.

If India secure a 4-0 or 5-0 victory in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) five-match Test series against Australia, Rohit Sharma's side would achieve a PCT above 65%. However, India face stiff competition from South Africa; should the Proteas win all their remaining matches, India's path to qualification could become challenging. To ensure their spot in the WTC final, India must aim for a clean sweep against Australia.
