Laxman Takes Over As Head Coach In Gautam Gambhir’s Absence: Report

Indian legend VVS Laxman has reportedly temporarily taken over as ICT head coach in the absence of Gautam Gambhir. Read below.

Indian legend VVS Laxman is set to take over the role of the Indian Cricket Team head coach in the absence of Gautam Gambhir, reports RevSportz.

Gautam Gambhir flew back to India stating family emergency, and the Indian team is currently training without him in England. 

VVS Laxman is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), and has the coaching experience in his arsenal. According to reports, the appointment tenure will last until the return of Gautam Gambhir to England, which is expected to be on the eve of 1st Test between England and India in Birmingham (starts June 20).

Laxman also looks after the 'A' and U19 teams, and is therefore, present in England and can join the camp on a quick note.

India will commence their World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle with the series, as the side have undergone massive overhaul.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have announced their retirement from Test cricket last month, and the Indian Test team will dawn a new era under skipper Shubman Gill.

Jasprit Bumrah was the skipper of the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma, but the selectors have opted for 'Prince' to lead the side in Tests, keeping in mind the workload on the shoulders of the 'Cricketer of the Year 2024'.

Several new faces feature in the side in the form of Arshdeep Singh, Sai Sudharsan, and Abhimanyu Easwaran, alongside the return of Karun Nair, who returns to the national set-up after a long hiatus.

With Ravichandran Ashwin's retirement, all eyes will be on Ravindra Jadeja, who will be the premier spinner for the side in the series.
