Rohit-Virat Shine as India Beat Australia by 9 Wickets

Team India wrapped up the Australia tour on a high note, defeating the hosts by 9 wickets in the third ODI at Sydney Cricket Ground.

Rohit Sharma led from the front with a match-winning 121-run knock, while Virat Kohli anchored the chase with an unbeaten 74. Despite India’s dominant win, Australia clinched the three-match ODI series 2-1. The victory also marked Shubman Gill’s first win as India’s ODI captain.

India’s bowlers set the tone early, restricting Australia to just 236 runs. Harshit Rana was the standout performer, claiming four wickets - his best bowling figures in ODI cricket so far.

Rohit-Virat Lead the Charge

Chasing 237, India lost captain Shubman Gill early for 24, continuing his lean run with the bat as he managed just 43 runs in three innings. However, Rohit and Virat’s brilliance ensured a comfortable finish. The pair added an unbeaten 168-run stand for the second wicket, guiding India home with ease.

Rohit’s ton was his 33rd in ODIs and his 50th in international cricket overall, while the partnership was the 19th century stand between Kohli and Rohit in ODIs - a tally bettered only by the iconic duos of Tendulkar-Ganguly and Sangakkara-Dilshan.

Gill Gets His First Win as Captain

Appointed as India’s new ODI captain before the tour, Shubman Gill faced a tough start, losing the first two matches in Perth and Adelaide. However, the Sydney victory gave him his maiden win as skipper, providing a morale boost as India continues its preparation for future assignments.
