New Delhi: An extraordinary start to the annual cricket festival saw 25 wickets tumble in the division 2 of the English county championship clash between Gloucestershire and Glamorgan on Monday.

After winning the toss, Gloucestershire dismissed the visitors of mere 117 in 32.1overs, with Anuerin Donald top scoring with 39, while David Payne claimed three wickets.

Chasing a modest total of 118 runs, Gloucestershire’s opening batsman Cameron Bancroft edged the first ball of the innings behind even as the hosts struggled to find a method on the spicy track.

Gloucestershire managed to reach to 141 runs in 41.2 overs with Kieran Noema-Barnett contributing 34 runs. But there was more in the store in the remaining time as five Glamorgan batsmen walked back to the dressing room for the second time in day as Gloucestershire reduced them to 59-5 at stumps.

It is now a record for highest wickets to fall in a day’s play in County Championship. The Test record stands at 27 wickets in a day and it was created when Australia faced England at the Lords in 1888 during the Ashes.
