ENG vs AUS: Maxwell, Carey Hit Tons As Australia Win 3rd ODI By 3 Wickets, Clinch Series 2-1
Australia's resounding win came on the back of breezy centuries by Glen Maxwell and wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey who helped the visitors chase down a herculean 303-run target.
Australia beat England by 3 wickets in the third and final one day international played at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester on Thursday to clinch the 3-match ODI series 2-1.
Australia's stellar win came on the back of breezy centuries by hard hitting batsman Glen Maxwell and wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey who helped the visitors chase down a herculean 303-run target.
Australia's chase looked all but over after they were reeling at 73 for 5 but Maxwell and Carey staged a brilliant comeback courtesy a record 212 run stand to help their team cross the finishing line.
While Maxwell smashed seven sixes and four boundaries to score his fiery ton (108) and bring up 3000 ODI runs, Alex Carey got back to form eventually with his maiden hundred (106) that came at just the right time for the Aaron Finch led side.
Australia were in all sorts of bother when seamer Chris Woakes struck early to dismiss skipper Aaron Finch and Marcus Stoinis before part time spinner Root dismissed opener David Warner for 24. When Marnus Labuschange was run out needlessly and Mitchell Marsh scalped by Root, the visitors were tottering at 73 for 5. Glen Maxwell was awarded both the man of the match and the series for his outstanding all-round efforts with bat and ball for the Australians.???????????? #ENGvAUS pic.twitter.com/WpNtwnCYyl
