ENG vs AFG: Afghanistan Win Toss & Choose To Bat First In Lahore, Check Out Playing 11s For CT 2025 Match

ENG vs AFG, Champions Trophy 2025: As both England and Afghanistan take on each other in the Champions Trophy 2025 at Lahore, here's a look at both teams' playing 11.

ENG vs AFG, Champions Trophy 2025: Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and opted to bat first against England in the eighth match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match on February 26 (Wednesday) at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.  Both England and Afghanistan suffered defeats in their opening matches against Australia and South Africa, respectively, and now find themselves in a must-win situation. A loss in the ENG vs AFG clash will result in the team's elimination from the tournament.

Afghanistan were thoroughly outplayed by South Africa in their tournament opener, struggling in both batting and bowling. The lone bright spot for the team was Rahmat Shah’s resilient 90-run knock, which briefly kept them in the hunt during the chase.

Meanwhile, England’s batting impressed as they put up a formidable 350+ total against Australia. However, their bowling unit faltered, failing to defend the massive score. Opener Ben Duckett made history with a record-breaking 165, the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history. England will be eager to bounce back against the tournament debutants in their upcoming clash.

Here’s a look at the ENG vs AFG Champions Trophy 2025 match playing 11s:

England Playing 11 vs Afghanistan: Philip Salt, Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith(w), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler(c), Liam Livingstone, Jofra Archer, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

Afghanistan Playing 11 vs England: Rahmanullah Gurbaz(w), Ibrahim Zadran, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Here's what Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and England captain Jos Buttler said during the ENG vs AFG toss:

Hashmatullah Shahidi: We will bat first. The wicket looks good. Hopefully, it will spin in the second innings. And it might be slower as well. Sometimes the dew is coming and sometimes it is not. It might get slower for sure. We were not bowling in the good areas in the last game. We are going with the same team.

Jos Buttler: The dew came in last game and it skidded on under lights. We would have batted first as well. It came on to the bat nicely. We just got one change. Carse is out because of an injury. Overton is in. Individual skills are very high. The expectations are very high as well.
