Australia complete a historic Test series clean sweep over Sri Lanka by handing the hosts a thumping 9-wicket defeat in the 2nd & final Test of the two-match Test series.

Sri Lanka managed to put on merely 20 runs on Day 4, as Asutralia bundled out the side on 231. The reigning World Test Champions chased down the target of 75 with ease, as Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne sealed a comprehensive win within 17.4 overs.

With the win, Australia have sealed the series 2-0, and this marks their first Test series clean sweep in Asia since 2006. However, the side finished 2nd in the WTC 2023-25 table, behind South Africa, to conclude their league stage, and will now contest the final against Proteas at Lord's in June 2025.

Mitchell Starc Reflects On Historic Series Win

Australia pacer Mitchell Starc ended his Sri Lanka tour with merely 6 wickets, as the spin duo of Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon combined for 30 wickets in the sub-continent region.

Speaking after the match, the pacer added that Australia aim at 'winning every series' and that they are eyeing the WTC Final against South Africa, set to be played in England.

"Absolutely. We try to win every series. Playing away from home is always a challenge and so happy to win it. Nathan Lyon has won it here but we haven't won so often in these conditions. It's been a surreal experience for a few players. (On player depth) It's a good problem to have. We are playing good cricket and looking to tick off the boxes," said Mitchell Starc.

"Playing in England will be different. We haven't actually played against South Africa for a while and it will be a good Test. The conditions will be different. The Duke ball will be used. That is something we the pacers love," said the Australian.

"We bowlers have been together for a while now. Pat and Josh weren't part of this series. Boland didn't play this series. But Nathan and Matthew did a fine job. We'll celebrate this win. There were a few new guys and they will gain a lot of experience from this tour. I'm glad to play a role in this series win but the spinners did a lot of hard work and I created those foot holes for them (laughs)," he added.
