Anaya Bangar Reveals Reason Behind Quitting Cricket

In an exclusive interview with The Lallantop, the 23-year-old opened up on her difficulties on continuing cricket, and also spoke on the influence of 'nepotism' in the sport, and dysphoria.

"There came a time when I was not able to think or understand anything at all. I had become very depressed. I was on antidepressants. Things like counselling by a psychiatrist were also going on. At that time, whenever there were matches, I would just sit in the dressing room and cry. I would hide from everyone and cry. Then a time came when I started hating cricket. After this, I decided that I would go to the UK and do my Master's and live a normal life," said Anaya Bangar.

On Nepotism

"To some extent this is true because you get exposure to the world of cricket. But in the outside world there is a challenge and pressure to prove yourself. Those who do not have a strong background have to go through a lot of mental things. We are only one level ahead of them. But to move ahead from this we have to work very hard."

On Dysphoria

"I used to see in the mirror that this is a boy's body, and I did not like it. I did not have the body that I wanted. This is called dysphoria. Your mind and body get separated from each other. Because in your mind you are something else, but your body is showing something else."
