1. China  eased a range of Covid-19 restrictions on Wednesday in a step towards returning to normal after a two-month lockdown that confined residents of the megacity to their homes and battered China's economy. 

2. Russia's nuclear forces are holding drills in the Ivanovo province, northeast of Moscow, the Interfax news agency cited the Russian defence ministry as saying on Wednesday.

3. US President Joe Biden has agreed to provide Ukraine with advanced rocket systems that can strike with precision at long-range Russian targets as part of a $700 million weapons package expected to be unveiled on Wednesday.

4.  Cash-strapped Sri Lanka on Tuesday announced steep, across-the-board tax hikes to shore up revenue as the country suffers its worst economic downturn and seeks an IMF bailout. 

 

National headlines :-

1. Next round of the Senior Commanders' meeting was agreed by India and China on Tuesday to take place at an early date in order to achieve complete disengagement from all friction points in eastern Ladakh to create conditions for the restoration of normalcy in bilateral ties, reported news agency PTI.

2. India's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 4.1 per cent in the fourth quarter (Q4) of FY22, pushing up the annual growth rate to 8.7 per cent, government data showed on Tuesday. However, growth in the January-March period was slower than the 5.4 per cent expansion in the previous October-December quarter of 2021-22.

3. The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her son and party leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with a money laundering case related.  According to the news agency PTI, both the Congress leaders have been summoned in the National Herald case.

4. IndiGo will conduct an internal case study on how to better handle passengers with disabilities and special needs, especially when they are feeling distressed, its CEO Ronojoy Dutta has said. The aviation regulator DGCA had last week imposed a fine of ₹ 5 lakh on the airline for denying boarding to a boy with special needs at Ranchi airport on May 7.

Eminent singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK breathed his last on Tuesday in Kolkata.  Kunnath was taken to a private hospital on Diamond Harbor Road after falling ill during an event at Diamond Harbor Road. As per sources, the famous Bollywood singer was brought dead at the Calcutta Medical Research Institute Hospital.

2. India men's hockey team failed to make it to the Asia Cup finals after their last round-robin league match of the Super 4s against South Korea ended in a 4-4 draw on Tuesday but defeated Japan to win the bronze medal.
