‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’ actress Ayesha Omar also shared an emotional note for Zara Abid. She reminisced the time they won their ‘biggest awards together’ this year. She wrote, “Zara and I won our biggest awards together this year, at the Hum style awards, in January. That was the last time I met her and the only time I got to really connect with her. It was me who presented the award to her, along with the two Tariqs. She was weeping with joy on stage when she received her award and I remember hugging her tightly and saying baby, you deserve this so much. I remember she was too overwhelmed with emotion, to talk much on stage. A little later I received my award and had tears in my eyes during my speech as well. We both met backstage right after, and shared this overwhelming experience together. After some hugging and sobbing, we fixed our faces and took these beautiful photos. This is how I’ll always remember you Zara. Smiling, warm, vulnerable and happy, celebrating the fruit of your hard work. I didn’t know you too well but the amazing things we are all hearing about you from your friends tell us what a wonderful, kind soul you were. You worked hard to support your family and had big dreams, some of which you were able to catch.... but you left us too soon. We will not forget this day... this horrific reminder of how unpredictable life is. Praying for your soul and for your family, along with the families of all those departed. May Allah give them strength. Rest in eternal peace, beautiful. Fly high in the heavens. You must have done a lot of things right to be blessed with departing on Jumma tul Widah.”
Hair stylist and make-up artist Omayr Waqar penned a heartfelt post for her, confirming her death. He wrote, “I wish I could ask you what did you do right in life to be blessed with leaving the world on Jummah Tul Wida. That is an honor not everyone is blessed with. I’m sad, yet happy you are in a secure place up there. Your smile and presence will always be missed. R.I.P beautiful! #ZaraAbid #PK8303.”
Zara Abid made her film debut with ‘Chaudhry’, which was directed by Azeem Sajjad. The movie is based on the life of Chaudhry Aslam Khan, who was assassinated in Karachi by the Taliban.
Zara Abid received the award for ‘Best Female Model at the 4th Hum Style Awards in January 2020. She shared this picture and wrote, “Honoured to be awarded as the Model of the Year award.”
Zara Abid courted controversy in 2019 when one of her photo-shoots for a magazine was criticized for promoting ‘blackface’ and ‘cultural misappropriation’. Apparently, the model was styled with a darker shade than her normal skin tone. This created a lot of hullabaloo.
Zara Abid was born in Lahore but she grew up and resided in Karachi with her family. The fashion icon was known for her tall look and tanned complexion. She did her schooling from the St. Patrick’s Girls High School.
Zara Abid had turned 28 on April 4, 2020. She had penned a post on her 28th birthday, which read: "Verified I am actually thankful to Allah for this quarantine birthday. It made me learn the value of people who love us. It made me learn how we take things for granted in normal times. Thank you everyone for making my day lovely with all your wishes. And especially the ones who send love my way with surprises even in this hard time."
Although, Pakistan’s government is yet to confirm the news of Zara Abid’s death, some journalists and other celebs have claimed that the popular model passed away in the plane crash.
Pakistani actress and model Zara Abid was among the passengers in the ill-fated Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Flight that crashed in a residential area in Karachi on Friday (May 22).
This picture was Zara Abid’s last post on Instagram. She can be seen sitting in a small plane. Her caption read, “Fly high, it’s good.”
