The film also marks a milestone in lead actor Shah Rukh Khan’s career, who cast away his image as an antagonist after back-to-back negative roles in ‘Baazigar’, ‘Anjaam’ and ‘Darr’. SRK became the new romance guru in town with his alluring looks.
Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s pairing became an instant hit. The duo went on to star in several blockbusters later with ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ being some of them.
The first half of the film shot extensively in Europe brought the audience to the lush green mustard fields of Punjab in the second half, with the iconic song ‘Ghar Aaja Pardesi Tera Des Bulaye Re’ playing in the background, ringing in a sense of nostalgia in all those living outside their country.
Amrish Puri’s performance as a loving yet strict father and Farida Jalal’s performance as a doting mother brought life to the romantic story of SRK and Kajol. Parmeet Sethi and Mandira Bedi gave a glimpse of their acting prowess with the film.
While the romance theme is the crux of the film, it also beautifully brings to fore the intricacies of relationships in an Indian family. Shah Rukh Khan’s bond with his father essayed by Anupam Kher is worth a mention.
‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ has one of the most hit songs of all time, that are popular even today. From ‘Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna’ to ‘Tujhe Dekha To Ye Jaana Sanam’, the songs do not just please the ears but cling to the soul.
‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ became the highest grossing film of 1995 and marked its place as one of the most iconic films of all time, in the history of Indian cinema.
