Israel Bombs Tehran’s Infamous Evin Prison, ‘Destruction Of Israel’ Clock In Fresh Attacks Across Iran

The IDF’s strikes targeted several high-value locations in the heart of Tehran, including the infamous Evin Prison.

In a dramatic escalation, Israel has launched a series of strikes on key Iranian installations in the capital Tehran, including the infamous Evin Prison. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) described the offensive as an “unprecedented” operation aimed at regime targets and institutions of repression.

According to Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, the IDF’s strikes targeted several high-value locations in the heart of Tehran. These included the headquarters of the Basij paramilitary forces, the office of internal security under the Revolutionary Guards, the ideology department, and Evin Prison — a facility known for detaining political dissidents and dual nationals.

As per the Times of Israel, Katz stated, “The IDF is currently striking with unprecedented force regime targets and governmental repression bodies in the heart of Tehran, including the Basij headquarters, the Evin Prison for political prisoners and regime opponents, the ‘Destruction of Israel’ clock in Palestine Square, the internal security headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards, the ideology headquarters, and other regime targets.”

The so-called “Destruction of Israel” clock, placed in Palestine Square in 2017, is a prominent symbol counting down to Israel’s projected end by 2040. It was also among the sites targeted.

Though Evin Prison was hit, AP reported there were no immediate indications of casualties among detainees, and reports suggested the strike may have been designed to enable escape.

Israeli Military Airfields, Aircraft Also Targeted

In addition to targets in Tehran, the Israeli military also hit six airports across Iran — in the west, centre, and east — disabling runways, destroying underground hangars, and impairing aircraft including F-14s, F-5s, and AH-1 helicopters, as reported on the IDF’s official X account. These sites, believed to be critical for Iran’s air force capabilities, were intended to prevent further Iranian aerial defences against Israeli jets.

Russia Condemns Strikes, Offers Iran Support

Meanwhile, Moscow has sharply criticised the attacks. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, reportedly called the aggression against Iran “groundless”. According to Reuters, Putin made the comments during talks at the Kremlin and expressed readiness to assist the Iranian people.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also remarked on Monday, as cited by AP, that Russia would support Tehran depending on what Iran seeks.

“Everything depends on what Iran needs,” he said. “We have offered our mediation efforts. This is concrete.”

Peskov further asserted that Russia’s stance on the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict represented an important show of solidarity with Iran:

“We have stated our position. This is also a very important manifestation, a form of support for the Iranian side.”

He added that the issue of Iran had been a recurrent topic in recent discussions between President Putin and former US President Donald Trump.

Fordo Nuclear Site Also Hit

Iranian state media also reported on Monday that its underground nuclear enrichment facility at Fordo came under attack once again, though there was no official confirmation on the extent of the damage or on the party responsible.

UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi said that the US bombing probably caused “very significant” damage to the underground areas of Iran’s Fordo uranium enrichment plant dug into a mountain, though no one can yet tell the extent.

“Given the explosive payload utilised and the extreme(ly) vibration-sensitive nature of centrifuges, very significant damage is expected to have occurred,” Grossi stated during an emergency meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s 35-nation Board of Governors, Reuters reported.

The United States had conducted a separate operation on Sunday targeting three Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordo, reportedly using bunker-buster bombs.

As tensions escalate, the region braces for the fallout of what appears to be a major turning point in the Iran-Israel conflict.
