American Airlines Aircraft Catches Fire At Denver Airport, Passengers Evacuated Onto Plane's Wing: WATCH

The plane took off from Colorado Springs and was on its way to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Texas. It was diverted to Denver after the crew reported "engine vibrations".

An American Airlines plane caught fire at the Denver International Airport on Thursday, leading to the evacuation of passengers onto the wing of the aircraft. No injuries were reported after the plane suddenly burst into flames following its diversion to Denver.

The plane took off from Colorado Springs and was on its way to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Texas, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement to the BBC.

The flight was diverted to Denver after the crew reported "engine vibrations". "After landing and while taxiing to the gate an engine caught fire and passengers evacuated the aircraft using the slides," the FAA said.

American Airlines said that the plane was a Boeing 737-800 had 172 passengers onboard, including six crew members. The airlines said that all the people were evacuated safely, BBC reported.

Several videos from the airport have surfaced on social media, showing thick black smoke consuming the tarmac.

"Passengers were evacuated and the slides were deployed," a New York Post report quoted the airport as saying.

The passenger plane was parked at Gate C38 of the Colorado airport when it caught fire. The reason behind how the flames erupted is yet to be ascertained.

Another video showed footage of the evacuation wherein passengers could be seen on the wing of the Boeing airliner, some holding bags, while flames continued to burn near the bottom of the plane.

Some other videos also showed the airport crews working to extinguish the blaze as smoke continued to billow from the aircraft.
