Adding to the distress, Raja’s mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, told reporters that Raj had been seen earlier at Raja and Sonam’s wedding too. Though she refrained from directly accusing her daughter-in-law, she raised poignant questions about Sonam’s role and inaction during the tragedy. "Why did she leave him there and not try to save him?" Uma asked, struggling for answers amidst the grief.
Timeline of the Murder and Arrests
The newlyweds had embarked on their honeymoon to Meghalaya on May 20, just nine days after their May 11 wedding in Indore. But on May 23, they went missing while en route to a local tourist spot. The mystery only unraveled on June 2 when Raja’s body, bearing deep machete wounds, was discovered. A nationwide search was launched to trace Sonam, who eventually surfaced on June 8 in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur under unclear circumstances, leading to her arrest.
Police believe that Sonam and Raj meticulously planned the murder. According to officials in the Meghalaya Police, the duo hired three men—Vikash, Anand, and Akash—from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh to carry out the killing. The trio has since been apprehended following an extensive search operation across state borders.
Meanwhile, Shrasti has continued to express her grief and anger online. In one emotional video, she used her brother’s wedding photo as a backdrop, lamenting, “My brother had vowed to be with Sonam for seven lives, but he couldn't even stay for seven days. What had he done to deserve this?” In another post, she accused Sonam indirectly, saying, “You could have eloped if you liked someone else. Why kill him?”
She also posted videos of people tearing down wedding photos of Raja and Sonam, and another showing Sonam being escorted away by police. The disturbing crime has shocked the nation, leaving behind a trail of betrayal, grief, and unanswered questions. Investigations continue as authorities piece together the conspiracy behind what is now being called one of the most horrifying honeymoon murders in recent memory.
