Rewa Court Awards Life Imprisonment To 8 For Gang Rape Of Newlywed Woman
A Rewa court sentenced eight men to life till death for gangraping a newlywed woman in October 2024. The convicts were also fined Rs 2,30,000 each.

A court in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, has sentenced eight men to life imprisonment till death for the gangrape of a newly married woman. The incident took place in October 2024, when the accused kidnapped the woman and her husband during an outing. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,30,000 on each convict.
According to PTI, public prosecutor Vikas Dwivedi said, Fourth Additional Sessions Judge Padma Jatav, on Wednesday, convicted the eight accused – Ramkishan, Garud Kori, Rakesh Gupta, Sushil Kori, Rajnish Kori, Deepak Kori, Rajendra Kori and Lavkush Kori and sentenced them to life in prison.
After they reviewed the case materials, evidence, and witness testimonies, the court ruled that the eight convicts would remain imprisoned for the rest of their lives.
On the date of the incident, October 21, 2024, the convicts abducted the newly married couple within the jurisdiction of the Gudh police station. Six of them took turns raping the woman in front of her husband.
The accused were reportedly consuming alcohol while committing the crime.
The victims were in the age group of 19 to 20 and were still studying in a college at the time of the incident. They were abducted while they were returning home from a temple on a hill, about 20 km away from the district headquarters, and the accused fled the scene after committing the crime.
The accused were convicted under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 70, which pertains to gangrape. While six of the men directly raped the woman, the remaining two were found guilty of aiding and abetting the crime.

In a separate incident, a political party functionary has been arrested in Pune for allegedly raping a young woman and a minor girl. The accused, who operates an NGO aimed at helping those in need, reportedly approached the victims under the guise of offering assistance.
He added that based on complaints filed by both victims, the accused was arrested under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused, Shantanu Kukde, is affiliated with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
