Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the burial ceremonies of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to diplomatic sources. The invitation has been extended ahead of a series of commemorative events scheduled across Iran from July 5 to 9. While sources confirmed that the invitation was conveyed to New Delhi, there has been no official response from the Indian government so far. The ceremonies are expected to draw several international dignitaries and senior officials.

Invitation Extended

Diplomatic sources said President Pezeshkian personally invited Prime Minister Modi to participate in the funeral and burial ceremonies being organised in honour of Ayatollah Khamenei.

There has, however, been no confirmation from New Delhi on whether the Prime Minister will attend the events.

Five-Day Ceremonies

The funeral proceedings are scheduled to take place in multiple Iranian cities between July 5 and 9. Ceremonies will be held in Tehran and Qom on July 5, 6, 7, while the final rites are set to take place in Mashhad on July 9.

Khamenei, who led Iran for nearly three decades, was killed on February 28 during the opening day of large-scale US and Israeli air strikes on Tehran. His death marked a significant turning point in the region and triggered widespread political and diplomatic reactions across the world.
