President Murmu Unveils BR Ambedkar's Statue In Supreme Court On Constitution Day
President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the statue of Dr BR Ambekar on Supreme Court premises on the occasion of Constitution Day.
President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday unveiled the statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar on the premises of the Supreme Court on Sunday on the occasion of Constitution Day. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal paid their tributes to the 'Father of the Indian Constitution' with folded hands at the event. They offered flowers to his 7-foot-tall sculpture. The unveiling of the statue was followed by a plantation of saplings which was done by both President Murmu and CJI Chandrachud.

During the event, President Murmu said, "I am very fortunate because as President I get to visit central and state universities and IIMs, IITs and interact with children. Today, people around the world are eager to look at India. Sometimes I ask them what do you want to become? Some say IAS, IPS officers, some say Judicial officers. There can be an All India Judicial Service and those who aspire to become judges can be selected from the talent pool across the country."

Several renowned judges of the apex court attended this event.
Since 2015, India has been celebrating November 26 as 'Constitution Day' in order to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly in 1949. Prior to 2015, the day was observed as 'Law Day'.
Six-time Lok Sabha MP Bhartruhari Mahtab made a suggestion in 2015 that the government should start celebrating Nov 26 as 'Constitution Day' in order to promote constitutional values among the citizens of this nation. The year 2015 also marked the 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar.
