Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar informed the House that a Notice of Motion for the impeachment of Justice Yashwant Varma, signed by 50 Rajya Sabha MPs, was presented to him today.
"I need to inform you that I have received Notice of Motion…to constitute a statutory committee for the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma...This has been received by me today. It has been signed by 50 members of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) and thus it meets the numerical requirement of signing by MPs for setting in motion a process for removal of a High Court judge...Since the Law Minister is present here and has so indicated that a similar Motion has come to be presented by a onrequisite number of MPs of Lok Sabha - more than 100, to the Lok Sabha Speaker, the provisions of Section 3(2) will come into effect and the Secretary-General will take necessary steps in this direction," Rajya Sabha Chairman Dhankhar said.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said: “If we are talking about transparency and zero tolerance for corruption across all arms of governance, and if politicians and media persons are being held accountable and jailed in cases of corruption… then judges must also be held accountable, just like the media, legislature, and bureaucracy.”
AAP MP Raghav Chadha said that he raised an important issue in the Parliament regarding the nation's aviation sector, DGCA.
"It is connected to aircraft safety and passenger safety. Our civil aviation sector is rapidly progressing, but the backbone of this sector, the DGCA, appears to be in a state of disrepair in some respects. There is a 55% vacancy in technical positions within it," he said.
"This means there is a 55% shortage of officers responsible for passenger and airline safety, pilot licensing and aircraft maintenance. This is a critical issue. We emphasised that there is a need to empower the DGCA," he added.
Lok Sabha proceedings have been adjourned for the day as the opposition refuses to relent on their demand for a discussion on Operation Sindoor and other issues.
As the Opposition is against the SIR exercise in Bihar, JD(U) leader Sanjay Jha said: "ECI has the responsibility to conduct elections, voter list revision, the right has been given in the constitution... They tried to make a narrative that the constitution is in danger during the elections, since we are from Bihar, we know the ground realities. Everybody is giving feedback that the work is going on well. If somebody has problem, the ECI said that the genuine voters would not be left out, the problem is they know that NDA is winning by big margin, hence they are doing this."
A high-level meeting with PM Modi was held at Parliament House today. The meeting likely discussed and made decisions regarding the Parliament session, news agency ANI reported.
Senior ministers present in the meeting included Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Rajnath Singh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, Kiren Rijiju, and Arjun Meghwal.
Union Minister and BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan said, "This is India's Parliament, it runs on rules and regulations, we want it to function, the Speaker told everyone discussion will happen. It is not the personal drawing room of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Everybody will have to follow the rules. We are ready to answer on the issues..."
Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav said, " The issue of Pahalagm terror attack is very important. All Opposition parties want there to be a discussion on it. The government should disclose what had happened and if it was an intelligence failure. The PM and the govt should hear the opposition nad we will hear that the govt will have to say."
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has moved the Bills of Lading Bill, 2025, as passed by the Lok Sabha, which is being taken into consideration in the Rajya Sabha.
Congress MP Mallu Ravi, speaking to ANI outside the Parliament, said, "The people of the nation want to know the truth...The Prime Minister is not speaking on the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the war between India and Pakistan...On many occasions, PM Modi has avoided speaking in the Parliament...We demand the Prime Minister to speak in the Parliament."
RJD MP Manoj Jha said, "In this session, there are many issues to be discussed. Everybody is talking about SIR exercise. People are getting disenfranchised, the ECI is not paying heed to the direction of the SC. We wanted a discussion on this... We will not let it happen (the disenfranchisement)."
Within 3 minutes of its starting again after almost 2 hours the Parliament House was adjourned again for 2 hours till 4 PM amid the slogans from the opposition.

BJP MP Arun Govil on Sunday came out strongly in support of Operation Sindoor, saying the mission deserves the “highest praise” and called on the opposition to stand united with the government on matters of national security.
“No amount of praise is enough for Operation Sindoor,” Govil told reporters in Delhi. “When it comes to the safety and security of the nation, political parties should set aside their differences and support the government wholeheartedly.”
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari on Sunday hit out at the opposition parties for disrupting proceedings in Parliament over ‘Operation Sindoor’. He accused them of deliberately avoiding meaningful debate despite Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's assurance of a discussion.
“The opposition keeps demanding a debate on Operation Sindoor, and Rajnath Singh has already committed to one. Yet, they continue to create chaos in the House,” Tiwari said while addressing reporters in Delhi.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha about the AI-171 plane crash, Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu emphasized that the investigation is being conducted transparently by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). He addressed media reports surrounding the incident, stating, “I have seen multiple articles not only by the Indian media but also by the Western media trying to promote their own viewpoint. The way we are seeing the investigation is through facts. We want to stand by the truth. And that will only be revealed when the investigation is complete.”

Speaking to reporters, Rijiju said, “A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee will be held at 14:30 hours to decide the agenda to be discussed. The government is ready for discussion, but they (Opposition MPs) are protesting here in the Well of the House. It is not right to protest like this on the first day of the Monsoon Session.”
