MEA Summons Pakistan Envoy, Registers Strong Protest Over Killing Of Indian Fisherman

On Saturday, Pakistan's Maritime Security Agency began unprovoked firing on an Indian fishing boat in the Arabian sea thus leading to the demise of one fisherman and injuring the other.

New Delhi: After the killing of the Indian Fisherman by the Pakistani side, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has summoned a senior diplomat of the Pakistan High Commission and filed a strong protest over the killing of an innocent Indian, Officials informed Reuters.

On Saturday, Pakistan's Maritime Security Agency began unprovoked firing on an Indian fishing boat in the Arabian sea thus leading to the demise of one fisherman and injuring the other.

"A senior diplomat from the High Commission of Pakistan was summoned by MEA today and a strong protest was lodged on the incident of unprovoked firing at Indian fishermen by Pakistan side," an official source was quoted by Reuters in its report.

The source further said that India strongly opposed the Pakistani Maritime Security Agency's unprovoked killing of an innocent Indian fisherman, which is in violation of the established International practices and bilateral understandings.

"It was reiterated that the authorities in Pakistan consider the issue of fishermen as a humanitarian and livelihood matter. The Government of Pakistan was also called upon to conduct an inquiry into the incident and to instruct its forces to refrain from such acts of unprovoked firing," the source adds.
