IndiGo Waives Cancellation Fees On Bookings Till May 22 In These Cities Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

IndiGo has announced to waive off cancellation fees on bookings to several cities including Chandigarh and Srinagar till May 22 in view of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

IndiGo has announced that it will waive cancellation change fees for bookings made on or before May 8 until May 22 for several North Indian cities.

The move comes after security forces thwarted a bid by Pakistan to attack military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur and some other locations with missiles and drones.

In a social media post, IndiGo said that bookings made to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Kishangarh, and Rajkot are eligible for change/cancellation fee waiver.

Earlier the airlines had announced the waiver of change and cancellation fees for bookings to and from Srinagar but later added more cities to the list.

On Thursday night, the carrier issued an advisory to its passengers to check their flight status amid widespread disruption caused by operational issues.

"In these extraordinary times, heightened security measures are taken up across all airports. We request you to allow some extra time for your journey to accommodate security checks and formalities. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation," it said in another social media post.

Enhanced Security Measures

Following the Thursday attack by Pakistan, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) instructed all airlines and airports across the country to enhance security measures.

It said that all the passengers would undergo a Secondary Ladder Point Check (SLPC) and banned the entry of visitors into terminal buildings.

A total of 24 airports in states majorly sharing borders with Pakistan were shut for operations amid the escalating tensions.

The cities where airports were shut include Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Kishengarh, Patiala, Bhuntar,
Shimla, Kangra, Bathinda, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Halwara, Pathankot, Mundra, Jamnagar, Hirasar (Rajkot), Porbandar, Keshod, Kandla, and Bhuj.
