Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, a wave of misinformation has spread across social media, including widely shared claims that the Pakistan Air Force successfully struck Indian military installations. However, India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) has firmly debunked these claims, clarifying that the viral footage circulating online is not linked to any recent cross-border military actions.
Several pro-Pakistan social media accounts recently posted videos claiming that Pakistan had targeted the Srinagar airbase and an Indian Brigade Headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir. One such post, widely shared on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), declared, “India, your Srinagar airbase, from where fighter jets took off to martyr innocent Pakistanis, has now been obliterated! You can’t escape the truth—Pakistan struck back, and your aggression has been paid for. #PakistanZindabad.”
However, PIB Fact Check, the official fact-checking arm of the Indian government, quickly debunked this narrative. In a statement, it clarified that the viral video is not from India but from sectarian clashes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, in 2024. The footage has no connection to any recent military developments involving India, underscoring the need for caution when sharing unverified content during sensitive periods.
Operation Sindoor: India’s Measured Retaliation
While misinformation swirls online, India has confirmed a significant military response to last week’s deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, including 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen. On Wednesday, the Indian government announced "Operation Sindoor," a series of precision strikes targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The government emphasized that these strikes were "focused, measured, and non-escalatory," carefully avoiding Pakistani military facilities. Witnesses in Pakistan reported loud explosions in several areas, followed by power blackouts in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
