South India Gets Painted In Vibrant Colours As People Celebrate Holi With 'Gulal' And Cheer: WATCH

Across South India, private event organisers, residential welfare associations and cultural organisations ensured that Holi retained its communal spirit with colours, music and dance.

As Holi is traditionally associated with grand celebrations in North India, the festival of colours has carved out its own unique identity in the southern states. Though the scale and customs may differ, the enthusiasm remains just as infectious with cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai witnessing lively festivities marked by colours, music and dance.

Across South India, private event organisers played a major role in amplifying the Holi spirit. Various venues, including marriage halls, exhibition grounds and convention centers, hosted ticketed Holi parties featuring rain dances, non-stop DJ music, foam dances and water balloon fights. 

Beyond commercial events, residential welfare associations and cultural organisations also ensured that Holi retained its communal spirit. Many neighbourhoods witnessed dance and music performances.

Hyderabad and Secunderabad: A Splash of Festive Spirit

In the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Holi was celebrated with great fervour. From early Friday morning, revelers thronged the streets, smearing each other with Gulal and exchanging festive greetings, reported Telangana Today. Popular areas like Nampally, Begum Bazaar and M J Market turned into vibrant hubs of colour, with families and friends coming together to revel in the festivities.

Communities with strong North Indian roots, such as Sindhis, Marwaris, and other Hindi-speaking groups, played a major role in organising celebrations. 

 

The US Consulate in Hyderabad also celebrated Holi. 

 

 

Tamil Nadu: Chennai's Sowcarpet Turns Into "Little North India"

In Chennai, the spirit of Holi was most visible in Sowcarpet, a neighbourhood often referred to as "Little North India" due to its predominantly North Indian population. The streets came alive early on Friday morning as people joyously applied Gulal, splashed water, and indulged in traditional sweets like Gujiya and Thandai. The colourful festivities in Sowcarpet underscored the rich cultural diversity of Chennai.

 

 

Karnataka: Bengaluru Holi Parties 

In Bengaluru, holi found expression through both organized parties and community gatherings. While private Holi bashes in farmhouses and clubs attracted the younger crowd, North Indian communities, corporate groups, and local cultural associations hosted more traditional celebrations.
