Rain, Thunderstorm In Parts Of Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon Provide Relief From Searing Heat
Heavy Rain in Delhi: The weather officer had forecast a thunderstorm with light- to moderate-intensity rain and gusty winds with speed up to 50 kmph.
New Delhi: Heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds hit Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon on Monday evening, bringing much-needed respite to the residents from the sweltering heat. In Delhi, strong winds caused power outages at several places in the city and uprooted trees, leading to traffic snarls.
The weather is likely to delay flight timings. "Raindrops and thunderstorms in Delhi may impact our flight operations. Please keep enough travel time in hand to avoid any hassle. Keep a check on your flight status. For any assistance, DM us on Twitter/Facebook," IndiGo tweeted.
Visuals posted by Delhi residents on Twitter show cars shaking on the roads. Another video shared by a journalist shows ACs dangling from a building that houses several media firms.
The weather officer had forecast a thunderstorm with light- to moderate-intensity rain and gusty winds with speed up to 50 kmph over adjoining areas of West, North-West, South, South-West Delhi.
"Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds will also take place at Rohtak, Bhiwani, Charkhi, Dadri, Matanhail, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Kosli, Sohana, Rewari, Palwal, Bawal, Nuh, Aurangabad, Hodal (Haryana) Sikandra Rao, Hathras (UP), Bhiwari (Rajasthan)," the weather department said.
Delhi had recorded a minimum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average, on Monday. he relative humidity at 8.30 am was 63 per cent.
On Sunday too parts of the national capital received light rain, with the maximum temperature settling at 40.7 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season.
A week ago, thunderstorm followed by heavy rains in Delhi uprooted trees and affected flight operations.
